I have a bit of a warning before you begin making the Cranberry Sauce. As the cranberries start to cook, they may splatter a bit…And, when they splatter, they may stain your clothes! After all, the colonists would use cranberries to dye their clothing back in the 1600s. So, unless you want some red polka dots, I recommend placing a colander over the top of the saucepan (or splatter guard) as the cranberries begin to pop.Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s get to the ease of making the cranberry syrup. To make the cranberry syrup, mix the sugar, water, and fresh cranberries. Simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture starts to thicken.Mix Your DrinkOnce you have your cranberry syrup made, it’s a matter of layering the drink. Begin by setting out 8 glasses (I love mimosas served in champagne flutes, but it’s up to you). Evenly distribute the cranberry syrup into each of the glasses, followed by about 2 ounces of orange juice. Top them off with champagne and sip away!Variations of a Cranberry MimosaIf cranberry is not your thing, try pineapple juice or grapefruit juice to mix it up a bit. You could also replace the cranberry syrup for a raspberry syrup. If champagne is not for you, replace that with a beer. For a non-alcoholic drink, you can always use sparkling water or non-alcoholic champagne. It’s fun to try, and the more colorful, the more fun (and tasty)!
