Cheesesteak Dip

Now, I don’t live in Pennsylvania, but I heard from a friend who does that folks all over the state crave Philly Cheesesteaks. That makes perfect sense to me… I mean what’s not to love about cheesesteak?  How to Make Cheesesteak DipSteak Bites recipe (below)Philly Dip recipe (below)cookie sheetsparchment paperExtra loaf- optional, this is if you want extra bread for dippingPrepare steak bites. Be sure to cut the steak into small enough pieces as large pieces may be difficult to eat in the dip. (You can make these in advance, just refrigerate until ready to assemble dip.)Steak bites are seriously so good. One thing you may notice about the recipe is that the steak should be medium-rare in the middle. This is the very best way to prepare these mini steak bites!They will cook a bit more in the oven while the dip bakes so it’s important to make sure they are not well done.Set them aside until you are ready to prepare the dip.Now preheat the oven to 350°F.Chop peppers and onions. Place oil and veggies in the pan over medium heat. Heat for a few minutes.The next step involves my FAVORITE secret ingredient in the dip. Quite frankly, I was hesitant to share because it has been a well-guarded secret in my family for a while! But this recipe is just too good to not share.Ready to find out what it is??McCormick Brown Gravy. I buy it in box sets because I use so much. I will go through this in 6 months! (Promise I will share some of the other recipes where I use brown gravy in the future!) It is the perfect addition to this recipe and saves time… but adds amazing flavor!Ok, now add the gravy, cheese sauce, milk, and most of the steak bites into the skillet and stir for a few minutes over medium heat. A little bit runny is ok as the sauce will thicken more in the oven.Place bread on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Carefully spoon the dip into the bread. If you have any extra sauce you can refrigerate or get another loaf to bake it in.While your dip is baking, get the butter sauce ready. It’s so simple! Melted butter, garlic powder, and dried parsley. Stir and then brush over all of the bread you removed from the loaf.When done baking, remove dip from the oven. Add remaining steak bites on top and serve immediately. You can also drizzle with more cheese sauce.So I made this recipe once and my family begged for more. Course: Appetizer Cuisine: American Keyword: steak bites Servings: 6 servings Author: Amanda Rettke 1 lb sirloin steak or pre-cut beef tips 1 tbsp. salt or more to taste 1 tbsp. pepper or more to taste 1 stick 113g butterIf necessary, trim off the excess fat from the meat, and then cut strips less than 1-inch wide. Rotate the meat and cut into small bite-size pieces. No piece should be bigger than 1-square inch.Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.Heat an iron skillet over medium-high to high heat.Add approximately 2 tablespoons of butter. Once it starts to melt, add in meat in a single layer. Make sure that you hear a lot of sizzling when you do this.After approximately 30 seconds, flip the meat over with a spatula. You want both sides to brown nicely but want the inside to be red, or about medium-rare.Remove the meat to a clean plate.Add 2 tablespoons butter to the pan and repeat the cooking process with the next batch just as before.Repeat until all the meat is cooked and set aside. This savory appetizer includes steak bites, chopped green peppers, onions, and my very special secret ingredient! Course: Appetizer Cuisine: American Keyword: Philly Cheesesteak Dip Servings: 6 servings Author: Amanda Rettke 1 loaf Italian bread or any sturdy loaf bread 1 tbsp. oil 1 cup coarsely chopped green pepper 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 package McCormick® Brown Gravy Mix 1/2 cup milk, I prefer whole milk with this recipe 15 oz jarred processed cheese sauce, such as Cheez Whiz® 1 lb steak bites 1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) butter 1 tbsp. garlic powder 1 tsp. dried parslyPreheat oven to 350°F.Place bread on baking sheet covered with parchment paper.Cut an oval or circle out of the top of the bread and remove bread center to make room for the dip.Carefully remove more bread to create a consistent hole in the bread. Chop all bread into bite-size pieces.Set aside for baking.Heat oil in large skillet on medium to medium-high heat. Add vegetables; cook and stir 3 minutes or until tender-crisp. Stir Gravy Mix, cheese sauce, milk and 2/3 of steak bites into skillet until well blended.Spoon dip into bread.Bake 15 minutes or until heated through.Melt 1 stick butter. Add garlic powder and dried parsley. Stir until well combined. Coat all bread pieces with butter mixture and then place on a parchment (or foil) lined cookies sheet. Bake for 15 in the oven with the bread bowl.
